Commercial Walk-In Cooler & Freezer Combos
Building combination walk-in units in Lithia Springs, Georgia, since 1979.
If you need both refrigerated and frozen storage but don’t have the floor space or the budget for two separate walk-ins, a combination unit puts both in a single enclosure with a shared partition wall. One footprint, one build, two temperatures.
Southeast Cooler has built combination units for operations that need both since 1979, from convenience stores running a continuous line of refrigerated and frozen display to restaurant kitchens working with limited back-of-house square footage.

Our Walk-In Cooler AND Freezer Combos
Every combination walk-in unit we build accommodates your specific requirements and is shipped to you as prefabricated modular panels designed for fast and easy field assembly.
What Customers Are Saying
Southeast Cooler serves clients nationwide and internationally. See what our customers have to say about our combination walk-in cooler and freezer units.
Why Choose a Combination Unit?
A combo isn’t two walk-ins pushed together. It’s one enclosure with an insulated partition wall dividing it, which is why it costs less and takes up less room than building both separately.
One footprint instead of two
Two standalone walk-ins need two sets of walls, two sets of corners, and clearance around each. A combination unit shares a wall between the cooler and freezer sections, so you recover that space and put it back into storage capacity.

One build, one delivery, one install
The whole enclosure is engineered, fabricated, tagged, and shipped as a single project with one approved drawing set. Your contractor assembles one box rather than coordinating two.
Sized to your product mix, not to a standard
The split between refrigerated and frozen is yours to set. If your operation is mostly cooler with a small freezer section, or the reverse, the partition goes where your product mix says it should, not where a catalog size forces it.
Built for retail as well as back-of-house
Combination units can run a seamless transition from refrigerated to frozen product with glass display doors across both sections, which is how convenience stores and grocery retailers use them on the sales floor.
How Our Combination Units are Built
Southeast Cooler combination walk-ins are assembled from prefabricated modular panels made of metal-clad extruded polystyrene insulation, designed for fast and easy field assembly (urethane insulation is available upon request).
Panels are available in 4″ and 6″ thicknesses. Full-width panels are 47″ wide, with narrow panels in various widths as required, and one-piece panels are available up to 30 ft tall. Enclosure sections can be constructed in any size to accommodate your actual requirements.
The Partition Wall
The cooler and freezer sections are divided by an insulated partition built from the same panel system as the exterior walls, sealed with the same tongue-and-groove edges and cam-lock fasteners. Because each side holds a different temperature, the partition is specified for the temperature difference it has to hold rather than treated as an interior divider.
Cam-Lock Panel Assembly
Panels throughout the unit, exterior walls and the partition alike, are joined with cam-lock fasteners embedded in the profiled panel edges, tightened with a hex wrench from inside and sealed with vinyl snap-in caps. Tongue-and-groove edges on every panel produce a tight, well-insulated joint at each seam.
Panel Construction
Panel skins are formed metal, laminated to the insulation under pressure with a structural adhesive. We monitor that bonding process closely to produce a structural bond that holds up across a wide range of humidity and temperature conditions.
Every panel has tongue-and-groove edges, which makes assembly faster and produces a tighter, better-insulated joint at every seam.
Floors
Floor panels use an .080 aluminum interior skin as the standard and will carry uniformly distributed loads up to 600 pounds per square foot. Optional reinforced floors are available and are recommended when using mobile carts or dollies.
The freezer section requires special flooring. Insulated freezer floor construction prevents cold from migrating into the slab and the ground beneath it, where the freezing and expansion of moisture in the soil can lift and crack the floor over time. The cooler section can be specified with or without an optional floor depending on your application.
Materials & Finishes
Both sections of a combination unit can be finished independently. A freezer side in stainless with a galvanized cooler side is a common way to put the budget where sanitation or inspection actually requires it.
Standard panel finishes:
| Finish | Specification |
|---|---|
| Galvanized steel | 26-gauge G-90, smooth or stucco surface |
| White painted galvanized | 26-gauge G-90, stucco surface |
| Aluminum | .032, stucco surface |
| Stainless steel 304 | 22-gauge, #4 polished surface |
| Stainless steel 304 | 24-gauge, #2B finish |
Doors & Hardware
A combination unit carries at least two doors, and they aren’t specified the same way. Both are hinged doors flush-mounted in a 47″ wide panel with a clear opening of 34″ wide by 78″ high, with a vapor-proof light fixture and a light switch with a digital thermometer pre-wired at the factory.
Every door includes:
- A replaceable magnetic gasket
- A dual neoprene sweep
- Polished chrome spring-loaded hinges
- A positive-latching chrome latch, and
- An inside safety release handle.
The freezer section door adds:
- Anti-sweat heaters in the frame section
- A heated threshold and frame
On a combination unit, the freezer door is the one component most likely to be under-specified. It’s holding a bigger temperature difference than the cooler door, and it needs the heaters and a heated threshold and frame to keep sealing and opening reliably.
Door options:
- Glass display doors with lighting and shelving packages for retail locations
- Hinged pallet doors in custom sizes up to 5 feet wide and 7 feet high
- Manual horizontal sliding doors
- Electric horizontal sliding doors with heavy-duty tracks and drive assembly (115/1/60 electrical required)
- Bi-parting sliding doors, single or double, manual or electric
Replacing a door on an existing combination unit?
We build replacement doors for Southeast Cooler walk-ins and for walk-ins from other manufacturers, in both cooler and freezer specifications.
Refrigeration Systems
Southeast Cooler supplies refrigeration systems engineered to match our walk-in coolers and freezers, with each system provided with the proper accessories and controls. On a combination unit, the cooler and freezer sections hold different temperatures, so each is served by refrigeration sized for its own operating range, with medium temperature for the cooler side and low temperature for the freezer side.
Our remote outdoor condensing units include efficient compressors, crankcase heaters, head pressure control valve, high and low pressure controls, liquid line filter drier, liquid sight glass, time clock, thermostat, pump down solenoid, expansion valve, structural steel base, and weather protection covers.
We also provide indoor refrigeration systems and self-contained systems for top-mounted applications.

Combo Unit Installation
A complete approved set of drawings is supplied with every combination walk-in unit.
✓ Site preparation. The wall panels must be level on installation. Allow a 2″ clearance between the wall panels and the existing room walls and ceiling. The freezer section also requires the floor substrate to be prepared correctly.
✓ Assembly. All panels are tagged with easy-to-read part numbers for a smooth and rapid installation, and cam-locks are tightened with a hex wrench from inside the walk-in.
✓ One coordinated build. Because the cooler and freezer are a single enclosure, your contractor works from one drawing set and one delivery rather than sequencing two separate installs.

What We Need to Spec Your Cooler & Freezer Combos
Rough numbers are fine to start. We’ll confirm everything on the approved drawing set before the cooler/freezer combination unit is built. Send us:
- Wall length available for the glass doors. The run the door bank will fill, in feet and inches.
- Depth available behind that wall. How far back the cooler can extend before it hits the next wall, a column or a walkway.
- Ceiling height at the installation point. Allow 2″ of clearance between the cooler panels and the existing ceiling and walls.
- Number of glass doors. And whether you want refrigerated doors only, or a refrigerated-to-frozen run with a freezer section.
- Staff entry door location. Back wall or side wall, and which side.
- Floor. Concrete slab or other, and whether the cooler needs its own floor panel.
- Anything in the way. Columns, ductwork, sprinkler heads, electrical panels, floor drains.
- Refrigeration location. Roof access for a remote condensing unit, or no roof access (self-contained top-mount).
- What you’re merchandising and the temperature you need to hold.
